You opened you eyes, your room dark. Groggily, you sat up and leaned against your bed frame, glancing at your alarm clock. It was 6:00am. You sighed, shutting your eye and resting your head against the wall. It was your first day of Grade 8 today. You should be happy like the others. It wasn't worth it though, everything would fall apart in minutes. Sighing, you slunk back down under your sheets, laying your head on your fluffy pillow. Tiredly, you adjusted your eye patch, then closed your eye, drifting back into a dreamless sleep.

The loud beep from your alarm clock awoke you and you slowly got up, soon hearing the pestering calls of your mother to hurry up and get dressed. Sighing and grumbling something to yourself, you pulled on your clothes and brushed your hair, looking in the mirror and wincing as you saw the eye patch. You wished it wasn't there. You wished so hard. It never worked though, it never would work. Sighing, you walked to your door, opened it, and walked to the stairs, going down them and walking into the kitchen, where your mother stood, making toast. She turned as you walked in and beamed. It was a wonder to you how your mother always loved you, no matter what you looked like. You smiled back at her, a small, rare smile. Your mother was the only person in the world you ever felt happy around, the only one you felt safe around. "_________!" your mother exclaimed. "You look beautiful!" she gasped. You smiled sheepishly.

"T-thanks, Mom..," you responded, your hands coming together to clasp in front of you. Your mother smiled and turned back to the toast as it popped out of the toaster. She grabbed it quickly and set it on the plate beside the toaster, which also had eggs and bacon on it. She brought it to the table and set it down, pouring you a glass or orange juice as well. You walked over to the table and sat down in front of the delicious food, smiling.

You began to eat, your mother preparing her things for work before sitting down beside you. You swallowed and glanced over at her. "Aren't you going to eat breakfast?" you asked her. She shook her head.

"The girls and I are going out for Brunch today," he responded with a smile, you smiled back. Your mom and her friends at work did this a lot, usually it was dinner though. You quickly finished your breakfast and checked the clock. 8:45. School started in 15 minutes. Sighing once more, you hugged your mother and grabbed your bag.

"Love you honey~!" you Mother called and you waved back with a now fake smile. Once you turned away though, it crumbled into a frown. You weren't ready for this! Even a day, one single day would have been better! You already felt like crying.

You began to walk, the school was only five minutes away from your house by foot. Soon, you were on the edge of the property. Taking in a deep breath, you began to walk towards the mass of students, all catching up with each other. All of the teachers were out though, so nothing too bad could happen, right? Well, at least at this time it couldn't.

Soon you were at the edge of the mass. You stood on your tiptoes, trying to see your teacher's sign. Soon you spotted it and began to go towards it, when a shout stopped you.

"Hey look! It's one-eye!" a loud and obnoxious voice yelled out. You winced, Gilbert.. Not more then five seconds later, the whole group was coming towards you. Gilbert, Francis, and their leader: Lovino. Lovino's best friend, so the man claimed, was sitting back, glancing at you with worry. Antonio had always been kind to you when nobody else was. You wished that he could be your friend, but Lovino stood in the way. Beside Antonio stood Matthew, a smaller boy with long golden locks. The boy was staring nervously at the group. You felt bad for him, he was barely noticed. The only times he was noticed was when his boyfriend, Gilbert, grabbed him into crap. Francis had the girls watching him and you almost felt sorry for those girls.

Lovino walked up to you, grabbing your shirt and yanking it up, so that you were lifted ever so slightly from the ground. "Hey one-eye," he sneered at you. "I'm surprised you-a come back," he continued, his Italian accent thick in his voice. "Honestly. I'm-a surprised that you-a keep coming back-a," he said. Francis stepped forwards. "It makes you a baka," Francis said, and Gilbert burst out laughing.

"Shut it Rose-bastard!" Lovino snapped, offended at the joke. "You too, bird-bastard!" he shouted at Gilbert. Both instantly shut the hell up. Lovino turned his attention back to you. "It looks like I should teach you a lesson, one-eye, I mean, we keep teaching you and yet you come back every year," he said, with a dramatic sigh, "It seems you're failing my class, and I hope you pass this year," he said, his lips now brushing your ear, making you shiver. "Or high school with be hell," he whispered. "And you'll like like hell," he added, drawing away and dropping you. He grinned at you before turning away and walking back towards Antonio and Matthew with his group. You could feel yourself trembling. Out of the corner of your eyes though, you thought you could see brown eyes staring wide at you. You turned and gasped. A boy was staring at you with worry, and he looked just like Lovino, only his hair was lighter and his eyes were brown. The boy soon noticed though and quickly drew back into the crowd.

You gulped, then made your way to your teacher.

Did Lovino have a brother?

----

In class, all you did was talk about house keeping, which you had heard before so many times. You had your planners handed out, and some folders.

Then, came break.

Slinking outside, you retreated to your hiding spot. It was useless though, Lovino had followed you. You yelped as you turned around, seeing Lovino there. You gulped.

"Well, _________," he said, making you gasp in shock. Not once at this boy called you by your real name. "Seems I found your hiding spot," he sneered, and you flinched, shrinking back, your eyes wide with fear. Grinning at the submission, Lovino began to raise his fist for a punch. You shut your eyes. The punch never came. As you opened your eyes, you saw the same boy you had spotted lying a meter away, clutching at his stomach. Lovino was frozen to the place in shock. Snapping back to it at the rising wails of the boy, he rushed to his side, a look of worry and anger in his eyes. The worry confirmed that this boy must be Lovino's brother. "Fratello!" Lovino whispered. "You stupid pasta-bastard! Look at what-a you've done!" the boy hissed. The other boy groaned.

"Fratello..," the other boy whined, his voice hitching as he gasped for air. Lovino winced. He then turned to you, his eyes hard. "Get the nurse, one-eye," he demanded. "Don't keep us waiting," he added. Nodding, you jumped your feet and began to run, dashing into the school and navigating the hallways. Your thoughts ran twice as fast as you. Had that boy just jumped in front of you? Why would he? You were everybody's favourite target, and that boy didn't even know you! As the nurse's office came into sight, you made a beeline for it. You swung the door open and the nurse looked up at you, startled.

"_______!" You can't just-" she began, but you cut her off.

"He's hurt!" you breathed, gasping for air.

"Who?"

"Lovino's brother! He's hurt!"

As quick as you said it, the nurse was up, running beside you as you went through the hallways again. Soon you were back outside. A crowd had gathered around the hurt boy, and you bit your lip. The nurse pushed through the crowd, shooing them off. They did as told, but most continued to watch from a distance. Finally, you were able to push through. You gasped at the sight. Blood was trickling from the now fainted boy's mouth and Lovino was standing back, his gaze traveling up to you as the nurse bent down the pick the boy up.

"Nice timing," he commented, then turned on his heels and began to walk away.

You stared after him.

Had Lovino Vargas just said something nice to you?

You stared after him for a while, then turned and began to follow the nurse.

You needed to talk to this boy.
